At the ripe old age of 35, my doctor sent me to a cardiologist for what he thought was an enlarged heart. The technician administering the ultrasound was surprised to see someone my age, as their patients were generally much older. In the quiet of the darkened room she watched my heart on the video screen. And I will never forget her words… “Oh,” she said. “You have a beautiful heart!”
She explained that most of her days were filled with unhappy results and news. Hearts that were damaged, sick, and weak. But my young, healthy heart was a welcome change for her trained eyes and to her, it looked beautiful.
This made me wonder…what does God see when he looks at our hearts? Unlike the technician, He doesn’t grow weary from looking at weak and broken hearts. He knows we are weak and broken, and as The Great Physician, there is no heart beyond His repair. He longs to make each of us well and whole.
For years I’ve found humor telling the story of how my “beautiful heart” has been medically verified… but where it matters most, through the eyes of our Savior, my heart was made perfect the moment I welcomed Him in.
Won’t you welcome Him into your heart today?!
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
