About a year ago, I saw a photo on social media that tore at my heart.
Convicted? Me too.
The power of the photo and its simple caption brought tears to my eyes. Here was a little boy abandoned by his family after being branded a “witch.” The physical and emotional suffering he endured is unimaginable. Indeed, a clear reminder that my life really isn’t that rough…
For many months, I would use this photo as a reality check. Whenever I looked at it, I was acutely aware of how blessed I am. After several months, I decided to search online for additional information about the child and his rescuer. And I found this.
What a difference! A child on the verge of death from exposure, starvation, and disease is now thriving… because someone saw the need and took action to make it better. Imagine how much better our world would be if we all treated each other with scriptural kindness!
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
In a world filled with selfishness and anger, we should all find ways to be altruistic and kind. We should seek to comfort others rather than indulge ourselves. There is power in a giving, thankful heart. It brings contentment to us and joy to those around us.
And it can be a miracle to a little boy in need.
